The Etch House

All the fitted furniture was designed and made to denote the location of the original building features and levels. Varying colours of Valchromat, which is a through-coloured MDF, is used in contrast to the white-washed Douglas Fir Plywood. Each floor level has an accent colour finish to the joinery, brassware and ironmongery. These colours were chosen by the client’s daughters and provide a playful contrast to the Douglas Fir and Valchromat.

Shape was commissioned by Fraher and Findlay to deliver their vision for the Etch House. We undertook the full technical design, fabrication and installation of joinery throughout, including the form-work for concrete basins and fireplace surround.

Within the kitchen, we used grey and yellow Valchromat to create cabinetry, adjustable peg-board shelving, and a built-in TV nook for the children. This, combined with a cantilevered Corian worktop and recessed powder-coated aluminium handles, elevate the overall modern, yet playful aesthetic.

White-washed Douglas Fir features throughout, with seamless transitions from the staircase, in-built desk, doors and walls. With inset, hexagonal brass handle details that were etched on our CNC machine.

Valchromat, a through coloured MDF allowed us to cut out window and door details to transform cabinets into dolls houses. This, combined with its robust properties made it a perfect choice for the girl’s playroom.

Shape created the formwork for the bespoke concrete basins, following the architect’s design, to offer truly unique sanitaryware.
