Decorex International 2019

Exhibition stand for Hakwood x Kelly Hoppen

Following our collaboration at previous year’s Clerkenwell Design Weeks, Hakwood approached us once again to create an exhibition stand to display their beautiful new tile collection from their collaboration with iconic interior designer, Kelly Hoppen. We loved and embraced the challenge to design a space that would highlight the amazing geometry of the tiles, and allow visitors at Decorex International to interact with, and become a part of the exhibition.

The main structure of the exhibition is made from Birch Ply torsion boxes, which provide a suitable base to affix the outer panels and tiles to. This approach allowed for millimeter precision, which was critical given the layout of the stand was dictated by the size of the floor and wall tiles; any discrepancies would be immediately visible and detract from the simplicity and geometric forms of the tiles. They also enabled the whole structure to be disassembled, palletised, and sent on for reuse, minimising the wastage of material that is common at large exhibitions.

We used Tulip sprayed in a matte, dark grey to create the struts & framework that weaves across the structure, complemented by Oak panels, stained grey to match the tone of the tiles. Recessed LED lighting illuminates the tiles on the display shelf, and elsewhere floor to ceiling mirrors accentuate the geometric patterns created by the tiles.
